Kendra
Kendra - Romidrian
Hand-knotted rug made in India
Production lead time: 8 to 10 weeks
The Kendra rug takes its name from the Sanskrit word केंद्र – Kendra, meaning center, focal point, or core.
In Indian philosophy, Kendra refers to the point of origin around which everything is organized — a fundamental reference, both stable and structuring.
An essential name, perfectly aligned with this rug, whose concentric design guides the eye toward a precise center, like a mental architecture inscribed in the material.
Entirely hand-knotted in India, Kendra is distinguished by a rigorous geometric pattern composed of concentric rectangles.
These regular lines, drawn with extreme precision, originate from a central square and gradually expand outward, creating a sense of depth and perspective. The design functions as a continuous visual movement, almost hypnotic, structuring space with calm authority.
The pattern is never decorative. It relies on controlled repetition, where each line finds its place within a perfectly balanced composition. This concentric structure creates a feeling of stability and recentering, reinforcing the rug’s presence without ever weighing down the interior.
The texture of Kendra emerges from a subtle interplay between silk and wool, hand-knotted at varying pile heights.
These relief variations — known as high-low pile — enhance the readability of the design and add a tactile, luminous dimension. The final washing reveals the natural luster of the silk and highlights the nuanced shades of gray, creating a surface that is alive and richly layered.
The monochrome palette, shifting between pearl gray and anthracite depending on the light, places Kendra firmly within a contemporary and minimalist aesthetic. This elegant neutrality allows it to pair effortlessly with all types of flooring — wood, polished concrete, stone, or tile — and to integrate seamlessly into both residential interiors and high-end professional spaces.
Conceived as a structuring element, Kendra organizes the room around its visual center. In a contemporary living room, an office, a hotel suite, or a reception area, it brings rigor, depth, and sophistication, while maintaining a quiet and controlled presence.
The excellence of hand-knotting
Crafted using the hand-knotting technique, Kendra benefits from high density and precise control over both pattern and relief.
Each knot is tied by hand, allowing for exceptional precision of line and outstanding durability. This artisanal method ensures perfect stability and remarkable longevity.
All finishing details are completed by hand, with carefully bound edges. Slight variations in tone or dimensions may occur; they are inherent to the handcrafted process and make each rug a unique piece.
Why choose Romidrian
Choosing a Romidrian rug means selecting a thoughtful, durable, and timeless design.
It also means supporting artisanal excellence, where material, gesture, and precision serve space and interior architecture.
